Typhoid Fever. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Advocate and Mining, Agricultural and Pastoral Gazette — 22 December 1900

Typhoid Fever. The following, few suggestions to householders for the prevention «.f typhoid fever, issued by the Board ox Health, should be carefully studied bj> all householders. But the main point seems to be cleanliness, and if the peo ple of Wyalong would conform strictly to this rule, clean up their back yards, and freely use disinfectants, there would be no typhoid :— Typhoid fever is communicated from those ill with it to the healthy. It Eflosfc usually attacks ! persons iu the prime of life, but no ago is exempt. Persons who suffer from Typhoid Ifever give off the infection in the • bowel discharges and in the urine. Clothing, bedding, linen, utensils, and all other articles which become soiled with those discharges (or excreta) are infective and can communicate the disease to the healthy. The disease can be taken direct from the sick, but that is very uncom mon. More often it reaches the healthy indirectly, or in a'f roundabout way—tliat is to say, with food and drink, ...

PASSING NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Advocate and Mining, Agricultural and Pastoral Gazette — 22 December 1900

PASSING NOTES. By " Coo-ee.'' Premier Lyne's indignation over, the recommendation of his self appointed reception and entertainment committee to abandon the elaborate arrange ments made for the official reception of the . Governor-General on Saturday is on a par .with, his .other inconsisten. eies. To appoint an umpire and t^en dispute his ruling is.tin offence which, in the case of the Iieid Finance Com mittee, ho deemed unpardonable. o p. o ■ The nerrous Hopetoun evidently braced himself up to endure the pre liminary official reception^ so as to have the benefit o£ a rehearsal before the tedious ceremonials take place on the 1st. His relief was great when Saturday's show was over, and his health improved at a bound. 0 0 0 The weather was ideal, the Governor was ideal, and the behaviour of the crowds was ideal. Th? volunteer military standing with fixed bayonets along the line of march .did not have to give even one solitary poke. It was a pity to have denied them any such enjoymen...
