'We quote the following : — I contend that the formation of County Councils crostos a third and additionaE taxing authority or an already overburdened tax '? payor. . In Australia, under our Federal sys tem: of government; we have (apart from purely local bodies),, two taxing authorities, the Federal and State, 'that each individual taxpayer is re sponsible to. The question of _the number of States does not enter into tho matter. We have six States at present, \but- if we had three or six teoi the position would still be tbp same/ viz., each individual / taxpayer would only be responsible to the State he lived in; and tho Federal Govern ment. - % Tho creation of County Cosmolla within a State to undertaha p«DHc works (jjartioularl...

Miss E. L. Armstrong A FRIEND TO THE TRAVELLER. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 14 March 1924

Miss E. L. Armstrong A FRIEND TO THE TRAVELLER. TO the travelling Australian there is no more helpful person in the whole of London than this cheery native of Mosman, who, four years ago, established herself as tlie Dominion tripper's guide, philoso pner, ana triena in tne neart 01 me great city. Miss Armstrong is one of seven sisters, one of whom is the President of the Sydney Women's Service Club, and when war broke out she hurried off, at her own ex- pense, to lend a hand, for as a highly-trained masseuse, she knew, better than any official, how quickly such help would be re- quired. I have it, on the authority of one of the greatest bone specialists in England, that there are many limbs walking about England now, which, but fo...
