Oh, how we miss him. Friends may think the wound has healed, but they little know the sorrow Deep within our hearts concealed. MR MADDOGNKS :ALEXANDRA. Mr. Maddock addressed some. 40 olectors in the shire hall last night. -Mr F.: Wheeler J.P., occupied the chair, and briefly introduced, the, candidate: Mr Maddock was well received. Heo was sorry for the occasion that brought him there. One could not help feeling sorry when a msqn who had not done good work for many years was taken away. Their late member, the hon. Nicholas FitzGerald had been their representative for 40 years. - Compared to him he was a young man-although he was not a chicken. He could never, expect to take the late Mr FitzGerald's place, but he hoped that the'niiinumber of years he had in his favor would help him-if. elected-to get, more: about' the constituency and work in their interests., Therefore, he hoped in the. future to be nearly as good a man as their late member. His position was, that> he was not new to public ,lifd.' He had had a great 'deal of experience in municipal work both as a councillor' and as president for nine yea...

Temperance Demoinstration' A temperance demonstration was held in the shire hall, on Wednesday, 23rd nlt., in connection with the Alexandra Tent, I.O.R. A fairly large audience was present, and a number of songs were contributed by local vocalists. An address was delivered by Mr John Vale, of Mel bourne, organiser of the I.O.R., and the" chair was occupied by Rev D. Lewis. The Chairman said it was the first meeting of the kind held in Alexandra to expand the views of Rechabitism. At the present time the Alexandra Tent was not too strong, but they should do their best and make it better, as all Rechabites were opposed to the drink. They had with them that night. Their principles were that of total abstinence, and they were a benefit society, and gave as good benefits as.any other organisation in Australia. Be then introduced Mr Vale. Marysville. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 2 October 1908

:Marysville. (From Oar Corespeodent). A light fall of snow fell in the town ship on Honday night last, anl a heavier fall-took place in the surrounding hills. The weather is now fine with light frosts at night, and there is every prospect of a, splendid spring ahead as the crops and grass' areoonming away well., . Do.downers in the township have had rather an unpleasant experience during the last few weeks here. The township has been practically cleared of dogs by some brainless person throwing poison in discriminately in the streets and yards, and good dogs as well as others have euceambed. The Railway Camp. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 2 October 1908

The Railway Camp. At a meeting of the hosital' committee, on Friday last, the President (.1t G. D. Leckie) spoke of the alleged sanitary con dition of the camp site on the mnai road. A large number of tents and huts: of various kinds have been erected on either side of the road between the' Eglinton Hill and the station. Betweeri the dwellings. enclosures have been erected to. keep and secure the many horses used on the railway works. Proper regard to the disposal of night soil had not been respected, therefore it was time something was 'done to protect the people and the hospital, as in the event of the present state of things existing during the summer months there was no knowing how serious it would effect the residents. This was the note of warning struck by Mr Leckie and he deserves the very best thanks of the community for bringing the matter forward We have made inquiries and are in a position to state that the Inspector of Nuisances (Senior-Constable Mooney) and the local He...
