[?] TTO the modern demand for fireproof buildings, Portland Cement Concrete Bud offers the logical answer. Factories, stores and shops built of concrete, present every pos sible precaution against fire. They therefore en sure safety against the most pitiless disrupter oj business activities. sittess and residential districts arc emanding concrete roads — for safety, comfort, speed and econ omy. For full information on any concrete problem , write to the Australian Cement Manufac turers Association, 14 Spring] £ Street, Sydney. \ . Yet, with all their strength and safety, concrete build ings can be exquisitely beautiful, for this modern material lends itself to every architectural form. The economy of concrete and its permanent character, make it ideal for industrial enterprises. Portland Cement has revolutionised building activity in Australia, as elsewhere, and to-day it is the greatest factor in the development of buildings that stand four-square to every economic 8C architectural...

CIRCULAR QUAY STATION Finance Lacking [Newspaper Article] — Construction and Real Estate Journal — 27 August 1930
CIRCULAR QUAY STATION Finance Lacking Lack of finance will likely prevent, the -syn- chronising of the completion of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Circular Quay Railway Station.. The Minister for Works (Mr. Butten sliaw) stated recently that an early start can not be .made with the Circular Quay Station as- finances would not. permit. ? He realised, ? however, that the .city traffic problems at the . present time- were ; great and .they would be even- greater when the bridge was completed. The superimposed roadway over the Circular Quay station would solve the difficulty, but at tne ??present time he did not see any hope of the station or the city railway being com pleted by the time the harbour bridge was open. '1 his state of affairs in regard to what will be one of' Sydney's main arteries of traffic serves, to. emphasise our contention that where the construction of public utilities such as rail ways is likely to embarrass the Government financially, private enterprise should...
