THE AWARD OF PRESENTS ALL SUBSCRIBERS SHOULD BEAD . We are now busily engaged in getting the large number of presents together and making full arrangements for the last award of the FARM , FIELD AND FTKESIDB . Each subscriber must send in at once his or her receipt to us by mail and enclose 10 cents with it to pay postage and packing expenses on the present . When a bulky present is awarded to anyone who sends 10 cents the money will be returned and the present sent by express or freight , aa the circumstances demand . No oleographs or chromes will be sent out , and we assure our readers that no present of less than 25 cents in value will be sent to any one . Enclose your receipt in an envelope with 10 cents , and be sure and write your address in full on the back of the receipt , giving postofflce , county and State . ODDS AND ENDS OP Useful Information . { Atmoers to questions which are deemed to be of general interest will be found under this heading . ) Will you please publish a convenient and practical method of canning fruit and tomatoes?—F . L . P ., Andubon Co ., Iowa . All ripe mellow fruit may be prepared and put I at once into jars . Place the jars in a kettle or boiler of warm water , with something underneath to avoid breaking . Make the syrup , using sugar according to taste , or in tho proportion of one cup of sugar and one cup of water for each jar of small ,, juicy berries , and one enp of sugar and two cups of water for pears and large fruits . Pour the syrup boiling hot into the hot jars , boll five minutes and seal at once . Quinces , apples , hard peaches , pears and fruit which requires softening should be cooked in water or in syrup until tender . Then fill the jars with boiling syrup , straining it if not clear .
