Four Qualities , [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 15 January 1902
Four Qualities , H VERY successful business man saya there are four Qualities he wants in his helpersFirst , honesty . Second , common sense . Third , industry . Fourth , sobriety . If . you find a growthy fellow combining those four qualities once in a six months search you are doing pretty well , said this well-known business man to the Live Stock World . Continuing he said , I do not want brilliant men—they are almost certain to have some defects that more than offset brilliancy . Some one wisely says that a quality greater than genius is the ability to pick out a genius . Many a person of naturally small gifts but a good judge of humanity has made unbounded success by the happy selection and wise retention of able helpers . Really efficient help is very scarce . The ability to know it when you see it is still more rare .
Congress Should Act . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 15 January 1902
Congress Should Act . IJBOT long since a paper that ought to U ^| know better asserted that the United States government had decided to give up the microscopic inspection of meat . Congress must see to it that this most important branch of work is not neglected . Secretary Wilson says : There is Just about enough of the fund left to carry on this work until oongreas comes to our relief in a special bill . Meantime we shall continue to inspect every pound of meat intended for export , and to place upon it tbe certificate or tag that entitles it to the foreign market . The German government seems to have gone to great pains to find some excuse for patting up the bars against American meats ; bnt onr good friends of the fatherland will have to get some better exense thaa the claim that we have ceased to subject onr meats to microscopical Inspection . Our forces of expert Inspectors at the various packing centers are just as busy and just aa alert and faithful today as they ever were , ...
^ TwOing Corn . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 15 January 1902
^ TwOing Corn . Wjp there was a decrease of 50 per cent U in the corn crop there have been three pretty strong offsets to that shortage . First , greater economy in dealing it ont . Some say this amounts to reducing the shortage one-half . Next , the exceptionally fine , dry , mild winter which has saved a good deal from being wasted in the mud . Then , too , the dry weather has made every bushel of corn produce more than average results .
