Ik §arf oil. f ojsi SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1866. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE ANTICIPATING! CHRISTMAS. Our ad mirers arc taking the field early. One of them yesterday, sent us a "clirlstmas gift," In the form of s pet pigeon. It is a very pretty bird. We have named him Tom, in honor of the late and la mented English nobleman Tom Sayers. Tom and the dog Juno get on vsry well, though as yet, tbe dog won't allow the bird to perch on her back. Juno cannot understand our neighbor, Mr. Reynolds, who lias been going on for some weeks, closing ono window after another, of our printing office. That pu__los her reasoning faculties. She does not un derstand law ; but if she were as mean as some who do, we'd drown her. The pigeon however, don't seem to mind .Mr. Reynolds' operations. LOCAL iHTJSLLIOEHCR Tiik Hacrkd Contkut, at Christ Church, last evening, attracted a large audience, but the music was, in all re spects, worthy of the generous attend ance. There must have been much patient preparation and close attention to business to have attained such domin ion over the voices and such harmony in the choruses. At first, close criticism would notice a little timidity—no nioro, however, than should be expected from amateurs,—but this gave way to confi dence, steadiness, and a linn and intelli gent guidance in the concert parts. Two or three of the vocalists rose and met the fullest demands of tho authors,—both in interpretation and execution,—anil three of the solos would havo extorted plaudits from Rossini himself.
