The Commission era in charge of the drawing at their first conference made a formal an nouncement of their plans. Under these a platform was erected in the street upon which the drawing com mences this morning in full view of all present. Envelopes containing the names of all registered applicants were placed in two boxes, one for each land district. These are large enough and so con structed and mounted, as to permit a thorough mixing of the envelopes. Dun & Co.'s weekly review of trade says: Good news predominates, although unfavorable weather proved a draw back at many points and new labor disputes arose. There is less than the customary midsummer idleness in man ufacturing industries, despite the scarcity of fuel. Commodity prices are fully maintained. Railway earnings thus far available for June average 9.9 per cent larger than last year's and 20.6 per ceut above those of 1900.
