St. Thomas, Danish West Indies, April 26.—Matters a.t Porto Rico are growing dally more serious. Refugees who hare reached here from the Spanish island say that great distress prevails there. As no news is given out on the island, the residents of Porto Rico implore their friends here to keep them posted upon cur­ rent events. The Spanish government has stopped all code messages and communica­ tion of auy kind i» most difficult. It is now said that the annexationists are growing daily in numbers, and that the revolutionary party of Porto Rico is awaiting the arrival of the first Ameri­ can troops or the blockading of the ports to rise against the Spanish government. On Board the Flagship Brooklyn, at Sea, May 13 (via Pilot Boat, May 14).— Commodore "Winfield Scott Schley and the Byiug squadron steamed out of Hampton Roads this afternoon at 4:25 o'clock un­ der sealed orders. The entire squadron was to have gone sud at 1 o'clock all the ships had reported ready for getting a\vay, but at 1:15 p. m. a dispatch from the navy department or-" dered Commodore Schley to leave the cruisers New Orleans and Minneapolis in Hampton for further orders.
