"We like that philos ophy which takes misfortunes and defeats traoofully and good humoredly. w ai wavs admired the Dutch sailor who, when he fell from the main mast and broke his W thanked nrovidence it was not his neck. This was no doubt the situation of our neighbors. They felt so good over the Bain of a councilman for one year in the 4th ward, and . the street commissioner, that they concluded to crow any how. Tn6 people of Canton nri called npon to lament the death of one of onr oldest and most respected citizens, in the demise of John Baxton Esq'-, on Sunday morning last at five o'clock. Mr. Sax ton com plained of being unwell on Friday of the week previous and did not appear at hia case in the office. A physician was called and for several days no immediate danger was apprehended. Indeed it was not till Triday last that his sons and friends became alarmecL. On Saturday it was evident he was sinking rapidly and would not last but a few hours.- A tele gram was sent to Chicago for his only daughter, Mrs. Goodman, who did not ar rive in time to see him breathe his last When Mr. Sazton commenced sinking he failed rapidly and died without a struggle.
