About 9 o'clock last evening ofH- Ocrs Dodge and Taylor saw a well known vag and habitue of the city prison come out of Menke's •tore, on the corner of Broadway and Sixth street, with si bottle iv his hand. They suspected that whisky waa about to be smuggled Into toe olty prison, but inquiry in tba (tore elicited the fact that he had purchased ten cents worth of coal oil. They concluded to shadow him and followed him along Sixth street to Jefferson, where tbey lost sight of him. A moment later a sheet of flame shot up tbe aid* of a deaerted building opposite where the officers stood which revealed tbe object of tbelr search In tbe act of kindling a fire.
