ThtfBepoblicari State Convention is to be held on the 21st of May nearly two months later than last year, and quite early enough at that RESIGNED. Senator Wilson has tendered his resignation as Senator from ilassa chnsetts, to take effect March 3, 1873. The indications are that George S. Boutwell, present Sec re tary of the Treasury, will be cho sen as his successor. If Mr. Bout- well makes as good a Senator as he has Secretary, he will reflect honor and credit upon his native State. COUPONS. The Secretary of the Treasury has directed that the coupons of the two-year notes of 1863, which may hereafter be presented detached from the notes, in violation of the notice on said coupons that "this coupon is void if detached from the note, except by an authorized officer of the Government," shall be paid the same as if the notes and coupons had ...

The Public Debt statement shows a decrease for last month of $5,227, 880,77, and the -reduction for four years, ending March 1, 1873, f 368, 082,559.48, We do not know of any administration that can show a bet ter record than this. FINANCIAL. has 'directed the Assistant Treasury of New York, to purchase $1,000,000 bonds on the first and third Wednes day and $500,000 second and fourth Wednesday, and to sell $1,400,000 coin on each Thursday during the current month of March. The Indian Agents and Traders The Indian has no means of knowing how much in value or how many presents of any kind the Government,the "Great Fath er" as he terms it, lias sent him. For knowledge on this point he mast accept the statement of the agent The goods sent by the Government are generally those which would most please an In dian's fancy. The Indian trader usually keeps goods of a similar character, the trader is most frequently a particular friend of the agent, often associated with him in business, aitd in many in stances holds his position of tra der at the instance of the agent. They are always located near each other. The trader is usually pres ent at the distribution of annui ties.
