THURSDAY MORNING, JANUARY 24, 1850 linrmllntlim In **nn FmniUin. If tliere is dim crime in the calendar more heinous than another, save and except only that of wilful mid deliberate murder, it is that of incendiarism Tlio incendiary is on© of the most recklciw, hardened nnd vile of nil criminals, seeking to destroy not only the property of men but placing in jeopardy human lifo The hiwV for the punishment of this offence have always boon sovoro and 'he present existing law of several of tho states for arson in the Ist degree the firing of an inhabited dwelling-house, is death or an imprisonment for lifo. Ilir Itrmna In «nn Kr»nfUrn. [Newspaper Article] — Daily Alta California — 24 January 1850

Ilir Itrmna In «nn Kr»nfUrn. Wo are now likely to have tho Drama regularly established in San Francisco, an event upon which we felicitate our citizens. Wo have long wished that wo might have a theatre in this place, properly conduotod.belioving that the aotual good which would ariso from tho introduction of a rational and proper epecios of amusomentwas in it* nolf a sufficient argument in its favor. Many an idlo hour which is dissipated in places where nought hut lessons in the worst species of vice can bo received, would be passed within the walls of a thoatro, where great truths are inculcated by the immortal language of tho great bard. Theatres by many are not considered schools of morals, but to our mind where they aro properly conducted, and no pandering to the tastes of the depraved and vicious is indulged in, many a lesson in morality is imparted. Vico and folly are hold up in tangible forms to the view, and surely — "Vice is a monster of such hideous mien That to bo hated n...
