Incumbent County Judge Jack Griesenbeck withstood a strong challenge by James T. Odiorne, finally holding a 200-plus vote mar- gin as the last box reported in to the county courthouse at 3 a.m. Sun- day. The victory gives Griesenbeck the Democratic nomination and an al- most certain return to office as there are no Republican candidates for the position. The final unofficial count was 2,678 for Griesenbeck and 2,475 for Odiorne. In the county judge's race, Odiorne won seven of the 17 boxes, with his best supp...

Odiornc during the initial part of the campaign for the May 6 primary, according to expense and contribution reports filed by the can- didates a week before the election. Griescnbeck listed a total of SI070 in contri- butions and $151.).71 in expenses on the latent report filed seven days prior to the election. At the same time, Odiorne reported contributions of $1800 and $1417.97 in expenses. Reports were incom- plete on the two commis- sioner's races, but the amounts were much less. Bastrop High School does pretty well in the sport, and it's all because of Sheila Old- field. Sheila, who is just completing her junior year, won the state AA girls' championship for the second year in a row last week at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Aus- tin. Shooting a 163 total over 36 holes. Sheila finished nine strokes ahead of runnerup Cyn- thia Rhodes of Brecken- ridge. The total also placed her in fifth place overall in classes 2A through 4A. Sheila's score, one stroke better than her winning score last year, also qualified as the low- est score ever for girls at the 2A level, according to BISD Superintendent C. H.
