Hood received anew face last week and if you were driving out East Range Road you may have been lucky enough to see mushroom clouds and debris flying in the fa distance. The situation was not alar- ming though for it was the 8th Engineer Bn’s. C” Co. doing their thing the way Ehgrs. do it ith lo iv and demolitions. The skybeavers were well equipped to handle almost any situation. Some of the ex- plosives and demo on hand in- cluded TNT and Composition C-4 used as amain charge booster charge cutting and re a in a rg lu general and military use in forward areas. Also military Dynamite used in quarry and rock cuts and the Bangalore Torpedo used to clear paths th ro a rb ire en- tanglements when pushed into position under the wire and detonated was used. STACY Last week “Care and Concern” began to discuss the frontier physician the Army doctor who cared for the soldiers and their families as our country was expan- ding westward. The Army doctors of the frontier era were not unlike their counterpart in the military today. They were in- dividuals. Most were considered to be very compas- I sionate physicians dedicated to the principles of their profession. They treated the sick and injured the soldiers their dependents civilians and Indians. It was not uncommon to find that the frontier physicians’ interests outside of medicine focused on nature. Many had a special interest in botony or geology. Outdoor living was the rule during this time and many of the early Army doctors were avid hunters and fishermen. There were many Medal of Honor winners among these physians.
