The Future of Roguery. (Spectator.) [Newspaper Article] — Singleton Argus — 18 August 1880

The Future of Roguery. (Spectator.) We do not aoe much reason for the ex treino interest taken by the .public in tho Lainhri trinl, which was remnrkabln cliiofly for the enormous publicity and importance granted by the London Prcea to on affair of a very ordinary kind. Tho story told by the witnesses was a kind of vulgarised "Gil Bloh," —"Gill Bias" as it might have been if Smollett or the author of "Jack Sheppard" had rewritten it. It was not amusing, though it waa crauimod with bizarro incident. It was riyht enough of Mr. Labouchcre, if ho had sufficient certainty an to his (nets and evidence to prove thorn, to donounco " Lnmbri Pasha;" though one cannot help thinking, if Lamhri had happened to be innocent, but noable to prove it, how terrible and how- unpunishable a cruelty such denunciation would bo ; but it wan not tho kind of right-doing which establishes much claim upon tho world. Tho Times is doing it evory month. Scarcely a wook passes without the lead iug journal publishin...
