KA^eOORLII MINER ' PUBLISHED DAILY. TUESDAY, 'opTOBEB 22, 1895, For about a year, past a local com mittee has striven valiantly to prpvide hospital accommodation for the unfor ;tunate. victims of disease in our midst. They have been assisted to some extent by the Government, and up till now have been able to cope,, in, some measure at least, with the difficulties which have, confronted them. Re cen, tly^ however, this town and district has received an influx of population almost unprecedented in the history of goldfield centres, £»$, consequently, the members of the hospital committee find themselves, without sufficient accommodation, with scarcity of funds., and with a fierce battle with i disease an,d death confronting them. Practical steps are being taken in :manj directions, particularly by the 'Municipal Council, with the assistance .of the Government, to make provision for the hot season, which is already. upon us, but all these efforts will be .stultified if the reception and ...

SPORTING. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 22 October 1895

SPORTING. Racegoers bad a beautiful summer day to enjoy at Caulfield, th.e attendance was larger than for years past, and included the Government House party, and numerous intercolonial visitors besides many from W.A. Nothing happened to mar the en joyment, save the downfall of the favorite for the Cup. It was a pronounced, victory fora rank outsider, and never was a race won easier. Humphrey Oxeuham backed Waterfall to win him £4000 at 100 to 2, and he has thro\?n a very large stake, but besides the stable comieetion there are very few-winners. Although the son of Niagara and Littler Waizer w&s considered a very fair colt, nothing warranted the assump tion he was capable of performing such a phenomenal feat. Hopscotch was first into the straight and his backers shouted them - selves hoarse at the apparently easy, victory of the favorite, and there was a tremendous l'oar when at the distance Dslany- was seen to rush to the front, and from this- point the race was all over, W...

PUBLISHED DAIIiiY. WEBNESDAY,,00T0BER 23,1895. Thee tepriible heat of toe weather ac centuates the existing necessity of -residence areas being made available for persons anxious to build camps outside the town boundaries. The weather during the last few days has been al most unbearable, and the nights have ; been trying, our usual good fortune in getting cool nights having for the time deserted us. Certainly the weather is very exceptional in this respect, but suburban areas to which the ciiizens^ could retire when, the business of the day is at an. end, would be a very- great blessing. Mining Notes. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 23 October 1895

- ? ' ~' ' ; / ??? - ' The White Feather Reward Com pany cleaned up last week. Their trial crushing gave a return of 333ozs from 97 tons of .stone. This must be considered satisfactory as the stone was taken from the dump and is reckoned as only average stone. Major Lawless, who has spent some months on the field prospecting and investing in the mines, especially those of the Kalgoorlie and Menzies districts, leaves to-day for London so as to spend Christmas with his people in Ireland. In addition to securing several leases, he has bought larga interests in some of the local mines. Mayor Lawless inti mu to return to Kalgoorlie at the end of the summer, being satisfied that there is no place so healthy or so profitable ia which, to spend the winter as the fields.
