I This was an action brought to recovei da- mages for verbal slander, alleged to have bien uttered of the plaintift'by th? defendant. Mr. Fodtcr, Mr. Windeyer, and Mr. Michie ap- peared for the plaintiff; and the Solicitor General, Mr. Broadhurst, and Mr. Darvall for the defendant. It appeared from the evidence of Mr. Wil- liams, the American Consul, the only witness called for the plaintiff, that the defendant, a highly respectable merchant of Sydney, in n conversation holden with the witness in the streets, lind said, speaking of the plaintiff, that he had sworn an affida- vit in the Supreme Court, for which' he, the defendant could transport the plaintiff, thereby imputing to the plaintiff the crime of perjury. SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.   ARRIVALS.   FROM Moreton Bay, yesterday, having left the 11th instant, the schooner Edward, 87 tons, Captain Chambers with wool, &c., Passengers—Miss Edy, Mr. Neil Ross, Mr. Hugh Ross, Mr. Meadows, and Mr. McColl ; steerage, Mr. and Mrs. Farrow, Messrs. Webster, Crothers, Buttings, Ashley, Carroll, and a prisoner of the crown. From Port Phillip, same day, having left the 14ih instant, the barque Jane Christie, 251 tons, Captain Williams, with part of original cargo.
