, There has been, as our readers are aware, . during tho last two or three weeks, consider . ablo agitation in the metropolis, in Parlia ? ment, and in various districts of the colony regai'ding the case of certain criminals recently convicted of the crime of rape, and sentenced to death for the offence in accord ? an ce with the existing law of the colony. Of the criminals, three in number, one an abo -riginal, who appeared to have perpetrated his crime with circumstances of unusual brutality, was executed at Mudgee in the ' beginning of last week without much excite ment on the part of the population, as was stated in the intelligence forwarded on the occasion from that town to the metropolis.
