The Minister for Lands. [Newspaper Article] — Warwick Argus — 15 November 1879

The Minister for Lauds. LAST Tuesday's issue of the Toovioomla Chronicle has another attack on the Hon: P. Pkbkins- in a leading article of some pro minence, which is not conspicuous for the courtesy of its language, nor the consistency ?bf its arguments. It is in short a tirade of abuse, on the Minister for Lands, for daring to repudiate the claims of the Chronicle, to a certain Government advertisement, which wfta inserted in the Darling Down* Onettt. The editor of the Chronicle, iii his overheated indignation appears to have betrayed no slight taeaeure of the venom and spleen, which is lavishly attributed to the Minister for Lands. After opening the subject of its grievance, the editorial spirit suddenly strikes off at . tangent, to fling mod at its contem porary by immodestly claiming for itself a larger circulation than the Darling Doumi Oatette. Sitting in judgment upoh 'itself, we must decline to accept the ipse dixit of the OtfonicUupon that point. In anothsrres pect a state...

TO THE EDITOR OF THE WARWICK ARGUS. [Newspaper Article] — Warwick Argus — 15 November 1879

TO THE EDITOR OF THE WARWICK ARGU8. SIR,-In the Border Pott (Stanthorpe) of the 7th inst., appears the following announce ment from its Warwick correspondent: " At a meeting held in the R. C. Chapel on Sunday the 26th ultimo it was decided amongst the more prominent members of that body that they should all withdraw their ac counts from the A. J. S. Bank, which, I am informed, hue been done, to the the extent of ten or twelve firms." I don't think that I am called upon to contradict all the false re ports circulated in regard to St. Mail's Church or its business; still the foregoing is so positively asserted, that, if not contradic ted, it might mislead many persons. I there fore trust yon will allow me space in your columns to Bay that on Sunday, the 26th ul timo, no meeting of the Catholics was held in_St. Mary's Church or in any other place; atHT TnrtJre»«narfl no meeting of the Catholic body was held, either Ml tbe '26th ultima or any previous or subsequent date, to discuss the ...

The Pulpit in Warwick [AS VIEWED FROM THE PEW.] THE WESLEYAN CHURCH. [Newspaper Article] — Warwick Argus — 15 November 1879

The Pulpit in Warwick [AS VIEWED PROM THE PEW.] THE WESLEYAN CHURCH. WE arc somewhat transgressing against the . rule which was Laid down at the outset of our - publication of sermons, not to impoBo this kind of matter too frequently upon the at tention of our readers, in so soon sotting forth the report of a discourse preachcd by the Eev. Puul Clipsham at the wosleyan Church on Sunday evening. But it would bo mani festly unfair to the rev. gentleman himself, and the members of bis congregation, as welt' os those outside, were the publicationof their j di&oourse held over for another week. We are indebted to a prominent layman in the Wesleyan Church for the following facte in connection with the ChurchThe present'; spacious and lofty edifioe, in which Divine , Hervice is held, is capable of seating nearly 500 people. It was built by the voluntary donations from members of the body in this neighborhood, at a coBt of X2000, and, as an index of the seal exercised ©n that occasi...

Allora. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT) [Newspaper Article] — Warwick Argus — 18 November 1879

Allora. (FROM ODE OWN COBMBPONDBNT ) W« have had close sultry weather hero of I late, with severe thunderstorms. A tree sear McMi'lians' homestead on the North I side of the creek was struck by lightning, and completely shattered, portions of the timber being hurled several yards from the , truuk. The rains hare done much (food to the wheat. The rust is still spreading, hut the wheat is sufficiently advanced to resist its I worst influences and the farmers ore sanguine j of good returns. Mr. R. Cook seems very t satisfied with his prospects. The caterpillars, ] I regret to find, have been very busy clearing the frogs from the wheat stems. This >s baa | indeed, for the fanners have bad their share of troubles-first in the weather, second in i the rust, and now those destructive reptiles, the caterpillars. j I send by this mail samples of wheat! which are a shade under the general average. They are marked by the name of the grower and numbered. Tou will mark the effect of the cater...
