The profits for the past year's business were shown at £321 18s 5d— an increase of £28 4s 4d over . those of the previous term. Sixty-two cot tages had been erected for members during the society's existence, and two members had paid their mortgages.

LITHGOW ORANGE CELEBRA TIONS. The annual tea and social evening of the two Orange Lodges in Lithgow will be held in the Town Hall to-night. Tea will be on the tables at 5.30 p.m., and the public meet ing at 8 o'clock. A grand array of local and visiting speakers will be present. The whole affair promises to be a huge success. Prior to the tea there will be a huge pro cession through the town, leaving the Pro testant Hall at five o'clock, and marching to the Town Hall.

BRITISH ASSOCIATION. The installation of the second shift at the Small Arms Factory will affect the 'Soccer' competition, and it is doubtful if any fur ther matches will be played by the Iron works team. Cullen Bullen will visit Lith gow on Saturday (to-day) and play a re turn match with the Thistle team. Two matches were played on Saturday last, Cullen Bullen being at home to the Lithgow Thistles and Portland meeting the Ironworks on the Lithgow ground. Cullen Bullen defeated the Thistles and Ironworks lowered the colors of Portland by two goals to one. The match on the Lithgow ground waB very evenly contested, and the ? Ironworks' win was somewhat lucky. Play was not of first-class quality on either side. Mr. Lin: sell refereed the game.

BOXING. For the Featherweight Championship of Australia George Taylor (Victoria) defeated Jimmy Hill (champion) at the Brisbane Stadium on Saturday evening last. The contest went the full 20 rounds, and Taylor got the verdict on points. At the Sydney Olympia Stadium on Mon day night, Jack Darcy knocked out Jerry Jerome, the aboriginal champion, in four rounds. At the Melbourne Stadium on Saturday evening Hughie Mehegan knocked out Frank Corroll in three rounds'. ? Fritz Holland sent Albert Lloyd to sfeep in the ninth round at the Rushcutters Bay Stadium on Saturday night.

Lithgow Bicycle Club. The usual meeting of the above was held in Thompson's Rooms on Thursday night, when there waB a large number of members present. Mr. L. MawBon was elected as a new member. It was resolved that a sweepstake road road race be held on Saturday (to-day), the course being from the park to Donnybrook and return. It was also resolved that in future no time of races be given out until settling of races. Mr. Hammer, who 1b volunteering for the front, resigned the position of handicapper. The resignation was accepted with regret, and W. Jones was elected to that position, pro tem. The secretary was empowered to register all officials. The meeting then adjourned.

PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS BALL. A meeting was held at Moore's hotel on Wednesday evening for the purpose of con sidering a proposal to hold a plain and fancy dress ball in aid of the Australian Wounded Soldier's Fund. Mr. H. Godwin presided over a fair attendance of towns men. It was agreed that a ball be held during the month of August, and a com mittee, with power to add, waB formed of the following gentlemen: Messrs.
