Alexandra P. and A. Association. HORSE PARADE AND SHEEP DOG TRIALS. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 18 September 1908

Alexandra P. and A. Asso ciation. HORSE PARADE AND SHEEP DOG TRIALS, The above event took place on the society's ground, last Saturday and attracted a large numbers of farmers and others interested. The leading storekeepers of the town decided to close their places of busi ness from 2.30 to 6 p.m. This added materially to the attendance as those on business bent finding the stores closed, found their way to the show ground. Complaints were rife against the charge made for ad mission, viz., Is. but when at is understoo'c that the society has extra yearly liabilities enforced upon It to enable a elaim being made to participate in the annual grant from Government, we feel sure those who complained will not begrudge the is. The society is the most important institution in the district, anil deserves the hearty support of the farming community. Thie sum of £7 odd was taken at the gates. Church Dispute. DIOCESE OF WAN GARATTA. •REV. E. IfH. SCOTT'S POSITION. Another church dispute was mentioned in the Practice Court on Tuesday to Mr. Justice Hood. The Church of England Trusts Corporation for the diocese of Wangaratta and the Rev. James A. Peck are suing to recover possession of the Church of England parsonage, Downey street, Alexaudra. The writ sets out that the corporation is the owner of the land, and that James A. Peck, as the curate duly appointed under the law relating to the Church of England to officiate as priest, is entitled to possession. Defendant, Edwin Henry Scott, clerk in holy orders, was formerly the curate. On 24th February he ceased to hold the position, but still retains occupation of the premises. Plaintiffs claim possession of the parsonage and £100 as meane profits. Mr. Mann (instructed by Messrs Upton and Plante) appeared for plaintiffs; and Mr Levinson (instructed by Messrs Ake. hurst and Blackbourne) for respondent Scott. Mr Mann said the ma...

NEC TEMI?ILE NEC TIMIDnS. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1908. ALTI ouou put forward as the first movement in the direction of national disarmament, the cessation of Japan in the pushing on with her naval and military problemn is not at all due from the cause so plausibly advanced. *We are reminded, in the light of past experience, that Japan, ever since her rise to the position of a naval power by her defeat of Russia, has left no stone unturned in her desire for more naval strength.r Japant recognised, and we also recognised it jusit before it was too late, that it was only by her naval might that her territorial ambitions would be ultimately wel coined. The system of espionage and cunning treachery adopted by Japanese men sent abroad by their Government does not at all commend itself-, to European minids. /The Japan,~es spy is dning, in his estinr atior, aº ',ol.!,: and patriotic action, when he letrray the, trust and hosspitality of lhi:. hI~tr ; ho is mereiy a savage with ,t thin veneer...
