AN EPIDEMIC OF CRIME IN PARIS. [Newspaper Article] — Traralgon Record — 11 May 1886

AN EPIDEMIC OF CRIME IN PARIS. From the firt to the lourteenth of d January last not a single day passed e without the perpetration of a murder, e or an attempt to do so, in the city or a suburbs of Paris; and life would ap pear to be as insecure in one of the chief centres of European civilisation as it was formerly in that part of India where the Thugs pursued their trade s of human butchery. The following is the calendar of capital offences for the first fortuight of the New Year. We venture to think it is almost, if not altogether, unprecedented, and it is to be hoped the record will remain r unique: Jan. 1.-A altdame Peyron fires a revolver twice at a p.rsu in the pre cinctsof the Palace of Justice, whom she mistakes fr an advocate named Dumont. Motive revenge. Jan. 2.-A young man, named Victor A~rinbe, attempts to aesassinate his aunt and then poisons himself, in the suburb of ulichy. Motive un. r known. Jan. 3.--A workman, named Regis, endeavours to murder his eminuuyer, M. N...
