Ask Louanne DearLouanne, Last week you wrote a response to the "Last Man" letter. You gave him the advice of picking up condoms so that when "the time is right", he'll be prepared. The question I pose to you, "Is waiting until your wedding night to lose your virginity an antiquated idea?" Some guys, and I stress SOME not ALL guys, I know say what happens if they wait until their wedding night, and then they find out that "she's no good in bed, what then?" Why are some guys only interested in their hormones? Why is it when some people find out your a virgin they act like you are the one who is doing something wrong....or not with the times? Is it old fashion and obsolete to wait for Prince Charming to sweep you off your feet and into the bed for the 1st time on your wedding night? Signed, Snow White Dear Snow White, Thank you for having the courage to write. Sounds like you feel pretty strongly about this. About four years ago I administered questionaires to groups of students ...

The Sonnenberg [In the ordinary sunlight] In the ordinary sunlight i could have said how perfect you. are but i didn't; instead, i sat and whispered into a hole in an ordinary treetrunk saying "the moon is no match" then looked across a hill to wonder at the bigness of trees. -Kenneth Sonnenberg by Rob Prindle Feature Editor Kenneth Sonnenberg was bom in Erie. He spent all but two years of his life here. In 1985 Sonnenberg graduated from Behrend with a B.A. in English. Shortly after graduation, he married and, with his new wife Arden, moved to Arizona. Sonnenberg was to attend The University of Vermont in the fall of 1987. He had been accepted into the Masters of English program and awarded a Teaching Fellowship. Sonnenberg wanted to become a teacher at the university level. He died shortly before the semester began. Sonnenberg was a poet. His poetry was published in "Sunrest Magazine," "Tempus," and "The Sandcutters." He took his poetry from nature. The wilderness offered hi...

Having Visions of Success (CPS)--"Don't get nervous;" "Don't say this;" "Don't look at that...;" "Don't think about..." People often defeat themselves before they go into a pressure situation by thinking about what they don't want to do. Thinking about what you don't want to do can actually make it happen. It's like the golfer at the water hole. As she prepares to swing, she thinks, "Don't hit it in the water." Where does it always go? Plunk — like radar ~ into the middle of the water. Let me explain why that happens. The mind is an incredibly powerful tool. Research shows that when you picture something in your mind the same pathways of your nervous system are being excited as they would be if you were really doing that activity. The body can't distinguish between an actual experience and a very clearly held picture in the mind. Thinking about "the don'ts" is actually rehearsing failure. It also causes enormous stress, and stress has become the plague of college campuses. In fa...

Think Skiing Erie Offers More Than Rain and Fall By: Millicent E. White Collegian Staff Writer When late Saturday afternoon rolls around and you have all oi most of your studying done, whal does the typical Behrend student have to do? The question here is, what do most Behrend students do with their free time, and mosl importantly what do those of us who don't go home for the weekends do to have fun and make the most out of our college lives? Everyone has seen the college orientated movies like "Animal House," which show the kids having a great time getting drunk and being rowdy, well here at Behrend that kind of fun can be had if you really desire it or you can take it easy and relax. It's up to the individual, Behrend is only what you make it. I am a freshman living on a floor with 31 other freshman girls who all have different personalities and ideas of what is fun. We all managed to agreed on one thing, though. It was sleep. It seems :atching up on much needed sleep is a v...

Epic Dillinger by Rob Prindle Feature Editor This stuff is strange. No, really; this stuff is so strangely good that 1 cannot imagine how it got published. Apparently Kangaroo court Publishing is truly a publishing house with vision. Do I have your interest? I am talking about Mr. Todd Moore. A poet, a fan of the famous gangster John Dillinger, and an all around weird guy if his poetry is any indication. Todd Moore is coming to Behrend to read his lyric/epic poetry on Thursday December 1. He will be speaking in the friendly confines of the Studio Theater at 7:30 pm. The reading is free and open to the public. Moore, who has been called "The greatest poet of the American Plains since Sandburgh" by the Los Angeles Times _^ will read from his multi-volume Dillinger series. He has been writing his lyric study of John Dillinger since 1974 and has recently had three of the projected 21 volumes printed by the Erie based Kangaroo Court Press. Moore now teaches English in Belvidere Ill...

The Beer Drinker's Manifesto by Our Man With Vision Brett Taylor Collegian Staff Writer "The highest purpose is to have no purpose at all. This puts one in accordance with nature, in her manner of operation." - John Cage I never asked to be a man with vision. Being the beacon for an entire generation of lost souls is a burden I would not wish upon any mortal being. But such is my station in life, and I accept it happily. Still, the demands millionaires want to raise taxes...while special tax loopholes which favor the rich remain on the books. We beat them last year because we have something even the rich and powerful don't have -- strength in numbers And now the Revolution awaits: a dark, looming beast that was always there, skulking around the corner, biding its time. And now the time has come. The Revolution calls and I will respond. it has never been so necessary, so urgent, for you to take action. Because, if we don't, we will lose a lot of money — and much more As my ey...

Be True to Your School Condoms in School Colors? (CPS)-It's the final touch foi the well-dressed college student: condoms in school colors. Students at most schools will be able to get them soon, says Nicholas Fogel, Jr., president oi College Condoms, the San Diego firm that's selling the devices tc selected campuses in California, Arizona , Florida, Iowa and Kansas, "is the market is there." Host Demonstrates Cohtd. from Page 3 jhysically threaten one of the men on stage! Is this any way to Geraldo to conduct himself? Instead of objectively exploring a delicate subject as he should have, Geraldo helped to promote the tension which eventually led to the unnecessary violence. Though I blame Geraldo for most of what happened on his show, I think that it was not he who directly caused the incident. Up until the point where the fight broke out, there were many accusations and racial overtones commented on by several people. However, it was the actual namecalling by one of the supremists that really started everything. (He called one Jewish guest a "kike".) Despite this, I think that if it had not been for the subjective and tension-filled atmosphere that Geraldo himself helped to build, this sad spectacle could have been prevented. If this show is any insight into the true perception of equality by our so-called advanced society, score: Racism 1 Equality 0

The Erie Panthers by Robb Frederick with Kevin Kapsar Collegian Staff Writers As a Pittsburgh native, there's only one thing that I miss more that my mother's cooking - Penguins Hockey. OK, so maybe they never had a winning season, but the competitive spirit was always present, and the games were always electrifying. My transition to college, however, deprived me of my beloved Pens. As my friends noticed my growing despair, they realized that something had to be done, thus I was introduced to Erie Panther Hockey. I must admit that I was at first skeptical about minor league hockey. I expected players to trip over their own feet, consistently pass to the opposing team and fight whenever the puck was lost. Although these expectations were fulfilled, the Panthers easily succeeded in providing an exciting evening for avid hockey fans - as well as spectators without a clue to the meaning of a power play. The players, united for the first time this season, proved to be very skillful...

Gannon Sees Football in Future by Todd J. Irwin Collegian Staff Writer It has been a long off-season for football at Gannon University, but it now seems that the Golden Knights will once again take to the gridiron next fall. The last time there was a football team at Gannon was 1950. The President of the U.S. was Harry S. Truman and the head coach of the team was Louis Tullio. Pending approval by the Board of Trustees, the next time will be 1989, when the President will be George Bush and Lou Tullio will still be the mayor of the city of Erie. According to Richard Love, the Sports Information Director at Gannon, the Board of Trustees will meet sometime before the Thanksgiving break to vote on approval of the program. If the program is instated, the team will compete at the Division III level of the NCAA. This proposal has already been approved by Gannon's athletic committee, faculty senate, and Strategic Planning and Management Committee. The main reasons for starting the foot...
