The gentleman whose portrait appears below has set the pace for county officials , that , if followed by the gentlemen holding similar positions in other counties in this and other states , can but greatly promote the agricultural interests of their respective localities . THE MISSISSIPPI . Summer journeys are usually pleasure exertions . After the weariness , the dust and the rapid transit the traveler needs rest and forgetfulness . The craving for Nature s beautiful revelations is not satisfied . But a river trip , a ride on the steamboat , especially if the river is the Mississippi and the boat the Quincy , from the magnificent bridge at St . Louis to the wooded hills of Northern Minnesota . Indian legend and poetical fancy fill the imagination , with delightful visions of the past while the steady motion of the boat as it carries us into new and everhanging scenes of beauty reveals to us the reality of pleasure-rest . The river towns are full of interestLouisiana , Hannibal , Quincy , Minnesota . in breeding and individual merit . I really think that the twelve young sows [Newspaper Article] — Farm Home — 1 July 1900
in breeding and individual merit . I really think that the twelve young sows between six and twelve months old can hardly be duplicated ; they combine size and finish in a very high degree . Such heads and feet are hard to find . It is with much reluctance that we consign this lot of sows , as we can get more for them here at home ; bui if we consign any , we must send those that will be a credit to our herd and to the sale . Every animal will be in good condition and perfect health . We have not lost a pig or hog with disease since 1893 . We cordially invite breeders and farmers to come to this sale and look over our consignment , and if you want anything good you will have a chance to buy at your own price . We trust that you will appreciate the quality , and bid accordingly .
THE GREAT AMERICAN BERK -SHIRE SALE . [Newspaper Article] — Farm Home — 1 July 1900
THE GREAT AMERICAN BERKSHIRE SALE . Merited praise is not flattery , and there is but small danger of overdescribing the good things that go on in this sale . The accomplishments and doings of the consignors to this offering have been for years an open book to the public . The writer has had the pleasure of seeing specimens from these herds win in hottest competition in nearly every state where hogs are shown , as well as of selling both before and after being shown , many of these great winners . It is worthy of note that at Springfield , Aug . 8 and 9 , 1899 , and for some years past , many such fancy specimens have been sold at what proved to be very moderate . prices indeed , in the light of their after performances , and this will be more especially true of the Aug . 8 and 9 sale than ever on account of the increased number of noted breeders who have boiled down their entries , and are making a supreme effort to eclipse all former efforts . A few hundred dollars judiciously inv...
