On ono occasion, however, lie assorted the authority of his office with a degree of determination and dignity that astonished the executive council. Colonel Chambers, of Kentucky, an inti mate personal friend, who had served on the staff of General Harrison in ono of his campaigns against the Indians, was under an engagement of marriage with tho widow of his son.
