3 F. O. McCOIlD, Local Editor. FRIDAY MORNING, MAY 22, 18G8. A Good Hove. ' There was to have been a meeting of citizens yesterday evening, called together by the board of Mayor and Alderman for the purpose of aacertainin g the sentiment of the tax-payerB with regard to the pur chase of a eteam fire engine. A very libe ral proposition from parties having control of a splendid machine has been made to thj authorities, and while they are convinced of the importance, and we might say ne cessity, of sinking "while the iron is hot," they prefer to cc nsult the wiil of their mas ters, the people, before they take the re sponsibility of acting in this matter. A machine worth 83,500 is offered to us for 1,300. A volunteer fire company can...
