PROGRESS. 77:e Life cf the Land is Established in Righteousness. HONOLULU, FEB. 13,1594. Boycott It has been a matter of surprise to any stranger "who has closely watched the affairs in Hawaii since the revolution, that the people who are loyal to the law ful government have never organ ized, and instituted a regular and properly regulated boycott The annexationists have adopted that measure long ago. They have in their business relations as shown done all in their power to . injure parties who differ from in them political opinion. They have waged war against business houses as well as against private individuals in fact their boycott has been complete. Wo believe that the time has now arrived when the great mass of the peo ple should adopt retaliating measures, and that a distinction should be made between friend and foe. Why should the loyal people trade with, and spend their money with men who not alone aro directly responsible for the depressed state of affairs, but who daily a...

HWl alfff ftlf p i OUl 1 JJLJ1VJJ,1 4 5 1 'A it. Vol. H, INo. A REVIEW OE THE- Hawaiian Controversy. I am asked to prepare, without bias or direct suggestion, a suc cinct review of the tbreo days' revolution of January, lSOii, at the Hawaiim Islands, wnch resulted in the dethronement of Quoen Liliuokalani and her con stitutional monarchy, and the establishment of the new Provis ional Government. The task is not inviting; for public sentiment among our peoplo has been so wrought up and worked upon of late, for the sake of discrediting this administration or tho Inst, and with a passionate desire of establishing one ultimate policy oranother towsrd that ocean juris diction, that facts aro easily glossed over or disregarded to sup port nn argument. Put I havo studied tho whole testimony care fully, nnd, I believe, without strong prejudices, and I now pro cood to state tho situation accord ing to my own impressions. I shall assume, in tho first placo. that tho situation of these islands...

Hawaii holomua supplement, honolblU TOesday, February 13, iso-l Bated -with fhe new government proposed to pension Lilinokalani handsomely and pa- down to the Princess a" gross sum in cash, provided that each would submit to the new order of things and to the authorityof theUnited States. Mr. Blount found last spring at Honolulu, while pressing his in vestigation, that agents, pretend ing to have received their creden tials from Washington, were trying to negotiate directly with the ex-Queen, so as to induce her to sell out and abdicate; and when their scheme was balked, Hawaiian journals in sympathy with the Provisional Government threatened repeatedly that she would be forthwith arrested and shipped frxm the islands. The dethroned Qoeen is not without grievances of her own to relate, such as must have left their indelible impression pecu liarly upon one of her imperious temperament- Like her own pre decessor, she disliked the Con stitution of 1887, which placed ancient prerogative...

l-r o W&r I PROGRESS. Tkc Life of the Land is Established j in Righleoitsncss. HONOLULU, FEB. 16,1894. The Fight of the Factions It is apparent to Hie dullest observer that the so called mis sionary olemenfc of the P. G. (who designate themselves "con servatives," the "truly good party;" people" and by several other euphamistic phrases,) is now between the devil and the deep sea of politics, and immin ont danger of being swallowed up by the one or the other. This is well, this is a "consummation devoutly to be wished" by all opponents of the rapacious hypo cricy of which that element has ever stood as the embodiment. It so happens on this occasion, that the devil is porsonato in the ponding drama, "by the so-called, American League, composed of the Lord-knows-who; from God-knows-where. But the identity of this League is of small mo ment. The prominent facts concerning it; arc that it embraces and voices the spirit of dissent of the hole-in-the-wall meth ods, and other distinctiv...
