Fireside Department. The Little Brown Bird. As I was retiring from the din ner table'of a friend in the coun try, one bright sunny day last Autumn, as I cast my eye through the bow-window, my at tention was attracted by a Jittle brown bird, sitting on the ground near a mirror, which the coach man had bropght from the city that morning, and left leaninp against the wing of the house. A group of friends and chi dren immediately gathered around to to look at birdie, and with one voice we said it had received an injury, and could not fly, but the next moment we found ourselves mistaken, for it took wings and was off. . I gazed a moment, moved its head toward the other, raised its feathers, stepped back a little the reflection, of course, making the same defiant move ments and then, vith all ns powe...
