Tho , Ctatb Journal. FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 25. 1874. RED HOT. Granite Mills Destroyed by Fire - Forty Employes Lost in the Flames. . Fall River, Mass., Sept. 19. The granite mills No. 1, in this place, burned this morning just tiftcr thu operatives-begun work, It is said there wan a fonrlul loss of life. The operatives in the spool ing room were panic stricken nnd jumped from the windows or 'were suffocated. About thirty persons wero killed and in jured. nni tho dying, in number, is many more. At 12:30 p. m.. eighteen charred bodies of killed and a number of wound ed have been recovered, thus Tar. A part of the machinery in the lower stories will he saved, in a damaged condition. Loss, $500,000. Insured for $400,000. The fire is still burning but under control. Bottov, Sept. 19.
