Valdez, a resident of Logan, was struck by No. 1 Monday even ing at a crossing near that place and so badly hurt that ho died in a few minutes after reaching the Rock Island depot. He leaves a wife and several children. The body was turned over to relatives who took it back to Logan for burial. The. News has not learned the de tails, but it is supposed that Valdez was attempting to cross in front of the moving train and was caught before he could clear. To Prevent Typhoid Fever In the several oases of typhoid fever, where 1 was called in, I have noticed a fear amontf the attendants of infection, but none seemed ex actly to know what to do, or how to avoid it. There is very little danger of infection through the at mosphere, but almost entirely through the stomach. Hence, be careful what you eat or drink at a house where the disease exists, or a dead body may be, and remember that the house flies are the carriers of the disease. Impure drinking water is the chief cause of it, and should receive the strictest atten tion. No doubt our water venders keep their own tanks clean, but are the tanks at the wells clean, and protected against the dust and filth carried about by the winds? Are they located in clean yards, and covered? Are the wells pro tected so no surface sewerage or filthy water can find its way below?
