(Established In 1835.) r~ , .... . ... - - ■ ■ • I Wt>tliios<ln.v, April 2!l, ISSI. • I Poultry Notes. The varieties of fowls that claim the notice of the poultry farmer or j cottager are considerable. Their value is differently marked, according to the objects for which they are kept. Home breeds are reared for the table, while others are intended for laying and hatching alone. The amateur or cottager must make up his mind as to the exact object he wishes to carry out in keeping fowls, and afterwards it will not be difficult to choose the breeds. If lie desires to rear fowls for table use some are not appropriate, as, for instance, the Malays, which are slow in fattening. Others are yellow-skinned, and are not rogarded with favor by the poulterer. Such are Cochin and game fowl. The Dorking combines the excellence of 1 having a whiteskin and...

It needs 110 prophet to perceive that the time is not far distant when the methods of burning solid fuel in vogue universally to-day, will be looked upon as antiquated and absurd, and will be practically discarded in our cities and towns for all purposes where fuel is needed. This revolution, which the engineering world will not be surprised to see, having long been prepared for it, will be brought about by the general introduction of fuel in the gaseous form, which will be manufactured at great central stations and distributed throughout our cities and towns in precisely the same manner that Illuminating gas is now distributed. It is well known to those who have given the subject a little j attention that gaseous fuel can be manufactured at surprisingly low cost, and that when once the innovatio...

As a rule, land which is rented out rapidly depreciates; small bushes grow up, which are not dug up, but cut off at the surface of the ground, and the roots below the surface continue to grow and in a few years are troublesome and costly to remove; fences and buildings go to ruin, and the land badly plowed and worked rapidly depreciates.
