m fails [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 9 February 1860
m fails BAND WANTED.— It really seems strange liat a city of the dimensions of Marysille, should be without a good brass band, 'here used to be an excellent one here, 1 the younger days of the fire departicnt, but from some cause or other it ras broken up, and now, a squeaking fe and a snare and bass drum make all le martial music that is sounded through ur utreets, unless a circus, or theatre and happens along here. What is Mark Dobbins' military company to do with no better music to march after, than is blowed out of the fife referred to, and banged out S said drums ? There is an opening ■pre, or ought to be, for just enough brass ®strument players to form a small band, in the course of a year, would make snug little sum out of their horn blowig. Tho old band was formed of men ho were in business here, and who held bemselves in readiness to piny whenever heir services were demanded, thus, mning their musical business but a supplelent to their other employment. Is there ot musical t...

Stojgailg appeal. LIT* « WlftudCtn Iter k WLFT, [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 9 February 1860
Stojgailg appeal. LIT* « WlftudCtn Iter k WLFT, I wish every husbaud would copy into his memorandum book this sentence, from a recently published work—" Women mast be constituted very differently from men. A word said, a line written, and we are happy ; omitted, our hearts ache, as if for a great misfortune. Men cannot feel it, or guess at it; if they did. the most careless of them would be slow to wound us so." The grave hides many a heart which has been stung to death, because one who might, after all, have loved it after a certain careless fashion, was deaf, dumb and blind to the truth in the sentence we have just quoted, or if not, was at least restive and impatient with regard to it. Many men, marrying late in lile, being accustomed only to take care of themselves, and that in the most erratic, rambling, exciting fashion, eating and drinking, sleeping and waking, whenever their fancy, or good cheer and amusement, questionable or unquestionable, prompted, come at last, when they...
