NEWS SUMMARY. Ex Governor Stanford and family and Dr. Harknesa sailed for Europe en Saturday. The race for the French Derby was run at Chaatilly, and won by Beauminet by Shorthead; Le Lion second. The Porte has settled the claims of the contractors in the War Office by giving them assignments upon the tithes for next year. Major John I. Harrold has recovered f30,---000 damages from the New York Elevated Radroad for injuries sustained in a collision. The Crown Princess of Germauy, Queen Victoria's daughter, has returned to Potsdam, after six month's sojourn in Austria and Italy. Statistics gathered by the Registrar of Vital Statistics show that 255 deaths directly due to drunkenness were recorded in New fork in 1879. The Njrthern Transportation Company's propeller Maine, was burned to the watei'i eige at Port Huron. The cargo and hull were both insured. At Roubaix, France, the situation continues to improve. For May the total experts aggregate short of 40,000 barrels. For eleven months to May 30tb exports have aggregated 450,000 barrels against 500,000 barrels for the same period a year ago.
