Northern Miner. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1875. [Newspaper Article] — The Northern Miner — 20 October 1875

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1875. BOTH the Townsville papers have given in their adhesion to the project for the   construction of a line of railway from the Bay to Charters Towers. The RavensWood Times is also in favor of it; this conscensus of opinion on the part of the Press of the district should lead up to some practical results. From what we have learned of the business feeling in Townsville, we believe that the opinion incautiously let slip by the C. B. Express when first discussing this question expresses pretty closely the feeling of the people in business there, it is to the effect that for a present and small gain the business people of Townsville are willing to ignore the future interests of the port itself and all their back country. It is of a piece with the petty feeling shown some time ago in reference to the site of the jetty. There was a petition and counter petition on the matter, and but for the seasonable snub administered by Mr. MACALISTER to the conten...
