Tho meeting was for the purpose of -having motions for warded on for discussion at tho annual conference, which is to be held in Sydney on the 5th July ; also for the election of delegates to attend the conference. The meeting was ad journed to Saturday May 18, whon it is to be hoped thero will be a bettor attendance.

News from the Front Mk. M'Oredie, of Tumut, has received a letter' 'from liis ' brotlior who' is serving in the mounted rifles in South Africa and left in the Aberdeen from Sydney, m November last. He ad dresses the letter from Yeomanry Hospital, Blfontein, and states that in an engagement his horse was shot in both legs ; and in, falling, the horse hurt trooper M'Credie's- leg, necessi tating his removal to the hospital in question. Trooper M'Oredie, more over, asserts that ? the horses are worked too much, and are unable to jump when required.

Apart from tho attainment of the re markable age of 100 years, there is something in the life of Mr. William Williams, senr.. the lion of last Thursday's demonstration, which ap peals to mankind far beyond the mere estimable sense, and which entitles him to rank among the ' men of the times.' His career ? has been a chequered one, and all the phases of life, from the acrimony of hardship and privation to the enjoyment of opulence, has he gone through. Born on May 8, in the last year of the eighteenth century, in Wales, he re ceived at tho hands of his parents what in those days was considered a finished education, and as years passed over his head he was put to the iron working trade, to which he served an apprenticeship.
