BUILDINGS. [Newspaper Article] — Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer — 24 January 1852

BUILDINGS.-We are glad to see that operations have been commenced in many I quarters. The brickwork of St. Paul's Church is in progress. The most pro minent private bnilding is 3Ir Kerr's, in the Market-square, a fine stone house, which has been almost entirely erected since the cold fever began. The Town Inspector, the other day, with a zeal like a custom's eficer, laid an informiati n against Ir Kerr for impeding the tilm ronuhfare with building materials We should like to see a greater number of such obstructions. A few weatherboard erections are also in progress, ani although we would rather see more sub stantial materiaL nAd, yet am ~ueh a time, neeessity ias no law, anld as ever' one will put up the best hEbs-e h" c?an n his own groird, it can'-ot be left in better hands. THEATRE. [Newspaper Article] — Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer — 24 January 1852

TIlfTRE.-The 'engagement of Irr Coppin at the Geelong Theatre most remind old p!avgers of the palnmy days of" starring" at home. The very idea is suggestive of crowded houses, "galax ies of beauty and fashion," and so forth. It is enough to rouse a critic to enthn siasm, and comnpel him to "grin horridly a ghastly -mi!e."" That 3Ir. Coppin is a star of the first mragnitude is proved by many circeumsances, and by none moe. than the fact that our enterpr;isig manager has en~gred him at the rate of £100f firve nights. Mr.Coppin,howevr. seems determined to carn that and fame at the same time, by appearing three times a r-ight in his m,-t favourite clia raeters. t? only will there be crowded houses of Ge.lr;g people, but we should no 1:a- rplrised if a good s.'inkllng of -isitoirs from Nelbhurao should show themselves. HORSESTEALING. -- This crime stil   continues is all its enormity, not only at the Diggings, but also at Geelong,   and the surrounding country. Yester- day morning, between three and four   o'clock, the s ab of Mr. Pea , of South Geelong, was broken into, and a chesnut     horse stolen. The robber helped himself also to a saddle, and most probably being himself __ with a bridle, is now on   the road to the diggings with his ill-     gotten srpoil.

BALLARAT. [Newspaper Article] — Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer — 24 January 1852

BALLARAT.-- The population here is on the increase. Rumour speaks of the discovery of a rich, snug gully, where there are a large number of men at work, within seven miles westward of Ballarat, in the direction of Mount Emu. The Commissioner and troopers have been searching for them without success. The country is thickly wooded, and the ranges are very intricate. The diggers cannot remain much longer concealed. Drays continue to leave Geelong in large numbers, and in some cases much mystery is affected respecting their des- tination.
