NORTH MELBOURNE POLICE COURT. .MonDAY, Feb. 17. Biefore' Dr. Lloyd (chairman), and Messrs. Fogarty and Wylie, Js.P. INSUI.Te ING IHAItORn. Annie Westhorpe was. charged as above. It appears last Monday she was arrested in the "horrors," and has been on remand fur medical treatment. She was discharged with a caution. IN _LT!NG BEHAIVIOR AND RESISTING. Richard Smith was charged with insulting behaviour and resisting Con stable Doyle. Doyle said that on Friday evening the prisoner was pulling a man about in Victoria-street; Doyle arrested him, and he resisted violently and kicked witness on the leg-. Constable Hickey gave corroborative evidence. Smith said he did notLemember -much. about it.-He had "several drinks." The Sergeant said defendant was a hardworking man. He pleaded guilty, and as it was four years since he had been before the court he escaped with 7 days. TIIREATENING IIIS WIFE. Thomas Beauvoison was charged with threatening the life of his` wife, Mary Beauvoison. It appeared that on the 18th he came home drunk, and said "I- will rip you open, cut your throat, the child's throat, and then my own throat.', Mrs. Beauvoison said sthe " wished to withdraw the charge "-after the manner of silly soft-hearted women who put the police to any amount of trouble, and waste public time for nothing in the end. REVIVAL OF LARRIKINISM. So.M short time since a Melbourne comic paper lamented the loss of the once ubiquitous suburban larrikin, especially as regarded the vicinity of Fitzroy, North Melbourne, and Carlton; and ascribed his almost total extinction, and the rare appearance of his stiff-brimmed "wide-awake," high-heeled boots, bell bottomed trousers, and gay necktie, to the scarcity of cash among the adven turous spirits of the streets. Recent even?rt? however, in-North-Carlton-re-. suiting as they did fatally-show that if the larrikin is not so much in evidence as formerly, the spirit of larrikinism is " not dead but sleepeth," and only needs a slight invocation through the medium of colonial beer, and a few extra shillings in the pocket, to appear again in all its intolerant insolence at the start, and its cowardlystthefinish.
