HOIDEN Hubbub. Each and every mortal hour it lusts, in this manner; the infinite hubbub unslackened LABOR MEMBERS. [Newspaper Article] — The Clipper — 19 August 1893

Hoiden Hubbub. Each and every mortal hour it lute, in thii manner ; the infinite hubbub untlnckeued. LABOR MEMBERS. Some people and some papers are so antagonistic to anything in the form of the representation of labor in. the colonial Parliaments that every evil under which the colonies labor is placed to the account of so-oalled Trades Hall influence. The Mercury is a peculiar sulterer from mis viru lent form of phobia. As somewhat of au antidote we publish Gladstone's opinion, although admitting that physic of any kind is useless in the severer forms of the complaint. How ever as labor-phobia is catching, it is to bo hoped that the Ci.O.M. will prove at least a preventive. He says : — ' We have not had one single person z'eturned to Parliament by the laborers to represent the laborers except such men aB are both high in intelligence and thoroughly sound and trustworthy in character.' The reason of this should be self-evident. A man to commend himself as eligible to a seat in Parl...

Mining Notes and Tips [Newspaper Article] — The Clipper — 19 August 1893

Mining Notes and Tips [Bt Gkoiu.] There is little to report relating to quo tations on the Stock Exchange this week, the sales being few and business dull. The news from the mining field, how over, is very good. Another valuable dis coveiy has been made on the Queen pro perty, and immediate results may bo looted for from the new lode, which carries on the surface massive Mocks of ore of ve'-y high assay value. The 30th annual show of the Tasmauiau Poultry Society was held in the Exhibition Building on Wednesday and Thursday last. On the first day the show was opened by Viscount Gormanston, who was received by the Mayor and aldermen and conducted over the building. The show was a complete success in every way, and was a great improvement on former years. One noticeable feature was Rowley's patent coops, which were obtained from Melbourne, and while adding to the attrac tiveness of tho show were also more com fortable for the birds. Mr. Johnson, the secretary, is to be complimented upon the energy he threw into the affair. The homing pigeon match in connection with the show took place on Thursday. The birds were liberated at noon at Parattah, and the result was as follows:— Mr. L. Walton's Richmond, 46inin 45sec. 1 ; Mr. King's Camperdown, 48min. 12Jsec. 2 ; Mr Stewart's Voyageur, 46min. 42i8ec, 3.
