Letters to Soldiers. NEW FORM OF ADDRESS. [Newspaper Article] — Cobden Times — 9 October 1918

Letters to Soldiers. NEW FORM OF ADDRESS. It is desired by the military authorities abroad that the word " Australia" be included in everything addressed to any of the units, hence the necessity fur including the words "Australian Imperial Force," instead of " A.I.F." Oon fusion is being caused by the Australian correspondents using the letters " A.F.A." instead of writing the word; " Australian Field Artillery" in lull in the addresses on letters and parcels intended for members of that unit. The " Army Field Artillery," ;i British unit, uses the smile initials. Instructions have been issued that correspondence is to be ndsressed to " Au-tralum" Field Artillery. In the case of infantry the distinguishing letter of the Company to which the soldier is ait.tehtd should be shown thus :— No. 123-1, Private Thotms Atkins, "B"Company, 21-^t Infantry Ilattalion, Australian Imperial Force, Abroad. In Light Horse regiments the squadron should be indicated in the same way, ns'follow* :— No. 1...

HT raiesone YV7E are proud of our Australian! »V soldiers—very. We are proud, of their glorious achievements in France ! and Belgium, of tlieir deathless heroism, i of their immortal fame earned when fighting alongside the oldest battle-tried ; armies in the world. And how do we ' show our pnde ? Money we give a plenty ; sympathy wc also give ; MEN ! we give sparsely. France, with seven i nations locked in the strangle-hoks of war on its battle-scarred soil, compels j the eyes of the civilized world to watch the ever-moving firing line. We are! winning in France now, and only a few weeks ago we were stemming the ; German tide. At one stage our hopes; were darkened; it seemed inevitable; that the onrushing Prussian hordes j would swoop on to Amiens.
