The shire president, Cr H. W Pickering, has received a communi cation from Mr A. E. V. Richard son, of the Department of Agricul ture, to the effect that Mr Duncan Whyte has been appointed as one of the farm officers- for the mallee areas. MIr Whte will spend the next few weeks in a preliminary tour of the Ouyen and Murrayville coun try, and it is expected that he will be accorded all the assistance and co-operation so necessary in an undertaking of this kind. Mr Whyte has had long experience of wheat growing in the mallee, Wim mera, and Goulburn Valley, and his services should be appreciated. It is his intention to visit some re presentative farmers in the district and will ultimately make a personal inspection of each farm, and his services will be available for any settler who requires them.
