HOW BENALLA LADY TRAVELS EUROPEAN CONTINENT (Continued from Last Issue) [Newspaper Article] — Benalla Ensign — 22 April 1938

1HOW JBENALLA LADY TRAVELS EUROPEAN CONTINENT (Continued fiom Last Issue) Through the Dora channel we sailed, round the Island of Eube. and Into the almost land-locked harbour of Vole. We anchored a short dis tance from the landing stage, which meant climbing down the gangway into a little bobbing boat, a feat not too easy to accomplish with any par ticular grace. Again we met with courtesy and kindness from the agent, a charming young man, who knew how to bow gracefully and kiss one's hand on being introduced. He produced a shy young brother, who spoke a little English and undertook to act as our guide during a motor drive. For some unknown reason when we went to get a car he pas sed the smart ones and chose an elderly Buick whose driver looked a thorough villlan, and who had a black patch over one eye. Volo is only a smalln town,: but' the country looks much more fertile'than that near Athens. It, also' ls,:: sur rounded by hills, the 'hills blecoriing mountains, and It was.-up ,o...

ENSIGN ROAD MAP APPRECIATED BY TOWNS. PEOPLE Last wiek the "Ensign" ' published a map of Benalla and district, and since then. we have been receiving congratulations from people In all walks of lif, from places hundreds of miles away where former Benalli residents now live. 'They have been able, with the aid of. the map, to live over again their 'childhood days. Many a man, who dreams of the joys of exploration; and is unable to fulfill his dreams, pores over maps, and in imagination travels " through dense forest along narrow tracts, over high mountains, all by the aid of the map that is In front of him. A good map is the result of skilled mathematics, arduous journeys' and vision, and. colates many of the physical sciences, and is really cre ative, since its sets down upon paper in a very small compass what lies beyond the horizon. The maplis , historic. Very few Benalla residents realise that 25 miles away, and in the shire lie some ol Victoria's most beautiful scenery. True patr...

Investing in a Car A REMAKABLE SMALL CAR [Newspaper Article] — Benalla Ensign — 29 April 1938

Investing in a Car A REMAKABLE .SMALL CAR Benalla. The man or woman who has been thinking about a motor car for business or taking Sun-" day trips, and to whom economy is of paramount l importance, should be sure and consider the claims of the Austin before fin ally deciding or becoming be mused by sales talk. Built by British engineers "who understand only that the job must give long and sterling service, but be suitable for Australian conditions, the Austin proved itself,a few years ago by running from Sydney .to Cape York, and after leaving Cookltown, there were no built roads to traverse. The critics have shaken their heads and said that English cars haven't the power, or are not built for Aus tralian conditions, but this has been disproved so much that already the 1038 sales have exceeded all expecta-. tions. The Benalla agent Is Mr O1. Leahy, Brldge Street, Benalla West. Below are the mechanical specifica tions of this very economical car:
