Knopwood, M.A. Ship News. - On Monday   last arrived from Macquarie Harbour, His Majesty's   colonial brig the Duke of York, Mr. Carmichael, Commander, with   Huon pine. On Wednesday last arrived from Port Louis in 39 days, the brig Caroline, Capt. Pearson, with merchandize.— Passengers, R. W. Loane, Esq., and family, and Mr. W. Keating, supercargo. On Thursday arrived from the same place, the ship Laura, Captain Vinay, with merchandize. - Passenger, Mr. Dorat, supercargo. This day sailed for Macquarie Harbour, His Majesty's colonial schooner Waterloo, Mr. Kinghorne, Master. In the Court of Criminal Jurisdiction. Monday.-George Richardson was indicted for stealing on the 26th of July last at the River Clyde 56 sheep, the property of Mr Francis Sockett a settler residing in that neighbourhood.       Before we enter into the evidence ad- duced on this prosecution it would per- haps be proper just to remark that the prisoner in this case lived 4 or 5 years with Lieut. Colonel Davey, and from the good opinion then entertained of him, became a confidential servant to James Scott Esq the Colonial Surgeon of this Settlement, and thus the prisoner had the sole charge and whole management, as head overseer, of that Gentleman's concern in sheep and cattle, at his station, in the same part of     the country, where the prosecutor resided. In the Court of Criminal Jurisdiction. MONDAY, MARCH 3. — The Court met this day at 10 o'clock ; when George Ray Eldridge and James Wood- ward were placed at the bar, on an infor- mation, which charged them with felo- niously stealing and killing, on the 31st of July last, four bullocks, the property of Mr. Thomas Ritchie, a settler, residing at the South Esk River, Port Dalrymple. — John Davis, John McLachlan, William Drury, and Woodward, were also charged with aiding and assisting in the said felony. The prosecutor, the first witness called, deposed, that, previously to the robbery be- ing committed, he had occasion to go to Port Jackson, leaving his cattle, about 169 in number, in the charge of Mr. T. '-The Committee at the City of London Tavern, for receiving fubfcriptions to re- lieve the diftrefled íriíh, and applying the fums thus obtained in the moft proper mag- ner, clofed its fittings on Thurfday. This step .was not taken until the Committee had received fpontaneous accounts from every part of Ireland, where fuch appalling distrefs lately prevailed, informing them that, owing to the exertions already made, and the profpcct of a plentiful crop,'it was unneceflary to forward any further remit- tances to the local distributors.
