GOVERNMENT BUILT SI LOS Some time ago t,lie Victorian Gov- ernment discontinued the practice of building silos for farmers on the tie- fet nd payment principle (says the Age), but, in accordance with a promice given by the Minister of Ag- riculture in Parliament, the system is to be reintroduced immediately. A sum of ^2,1100 has been made avail- able for the purpose. The con- ditions are that a farmer may choose one of three standard varieties of silo, viz., the Russel), an iron silo; the Midget, a concrete silo, or the Cherry, a wood and non silo; the respective cost being ¿49, £4ñ, £40. ' Already between SO and CO applications have been received. The department wib build the silos, and the cost is to be repaid in ins'al ments The £2,000 will not be suffi cient to provide the whole of the si'os a featly app'ied for, and the Minister has decided during the autumn to give a preference to those who desire silos for maize storage, which is an autumn operation.
