Dawson was chosen I_'resideDt_, and a number of gentlemen "Vice Presidents and Secretaries. After the matter, of contested seat ? was settled, a Committee of thirteen on _JfteBolntions was {appointed by the chair, and lite con-, vention decided to make no nominations until the Committee reported. This, together with the peculiar selection of the Committee, (all Lecompton men) gave rise to a spirited debate, the minority contend ing that it was contrary to Democratic usage to adopt a platform,before nominations were made , and that the "President of the Convention had attempted to gag the Anti-Lecompton members, by appointing none of them on theCommittee.
