Don't Quarrel , Gentlemen . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 14 January 1902

Dont Quarrel , Gentlemen . H REGRETABLE disposition to internal strife is noticeable in the managerial circles of more than one agricultural college . This was evident in the case of Kansas at the recent gathering of the Improved Live Stock Breeders Association of that state at Topeka , a resolution censuring the management and alleging that it had discriminated against agricultural education being presented and tabled after a lively controversy . And the same cause has hampered the work at other colleges and experiment stations . This must not continue . Only recently has agrarian prejudice against scientific agricultural education been broken down . Quarrels will merely restore it . Agriculture needs science and when scientists quarrel or ally themselves with clashing political interests they deal a blow at the movement they are supposed to foster . Keep the agricultural educational system out of polities , gentlemen , and avoid bickering .

. Should Hat > e Fed It . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 14 January 1902

. Should Hat > e Fed It . BATTLE feeders whose operations are on an extensive scale appear to mon- ; . - opolize the industry in every section ofthe corn belt this year . Everywhere , when inouiry as to the number of cattle on feed is made the same answer is elicited . Those who have been aq ^ tistomed to feed on a small scale , if they harvested a crop last year ai * e selling it to the big feeders who are keeping right along with their business , confident that the low price of stock cattle and the high price of beef will offset the high price of corn , while farmers whose crop was practically ruined are temporarily out of the sphere of feeding activity . Results will determine whether the big fellows have displayed good judgment , but the small farmer who has sold his corn in preference to feeding it has undoubtedly made a mistake no matter what price he got . Corn Culture and Breeding . RSORN growers will find the series of \_ jj _\ articles on Prof . Shamel s researc...

Whv Not Sa *> e Some ? HOSEPH , once xipon a time , averted a lengthy period of threatened starvation in Egypt by a dream-reading feat liaving no parallel in history . On his advice grain was stored up in sufficient quantity to tide the country over seven years of crop failure . At Irregular Intervals the corn belt of ths United States ia uSUcted by each a drouth as that which practically ruined the crop in many sections last summer and in others reduced it to a meagre mlnlnram . Here aad there through the country may be found farmers , who , knowing that history repeats itself , concluded that eUmatlc conditions arc equally eccentric and anticipating a dry year made ready for it . Sixty and seventy cent corn fonnd tbem with fnU cribs , gathered at less than half this year s price aad aa Iowa correspondent ofthe LIVE STOCK Woni . n recently told of a Greene county farmer having in crib aad stock tbe entire crops of bis farm for the past five years , wbich he Is selling at...
