THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. SEPTEMBER 24. 1909. I MILO MAIZE VERSUS KAFFIR. J. T. Cruse, Assistant Superintendent Chilli cothe Co-operative Experiment Station, Discusses Milo and Kaffir. Milo and Kai'tir are esinvially adapted to t he semi-arid regions of West and Northwest Texas. They urow luxuriantly through out the humid belt, but seldom set seed on account of the sor ghum midge (diplosis sorghicola) the larvae of which prevents seed production by absorbing the juices from the young oviary so that the grain never develops. This is the trouble often called "blast" by farmers. Everyone who is familiar with the milo and Kaffir plants will admit at once that under ordinary conditions Kaffir is in every res pect superior to milo. ly or dinary conditions, we mean con ditionsthat a re favorable to heavy or medium heavy yields. Milo and Kaffir are sn nearly alike in habit of growth and general ap pearance that one must know each and its p-cu!iaritie to ap preciate their relative importance ...
