.TiE FELICIANA SENTINEL. ANoTras IrasNTIox..-The ver satile ingenauity of a Western in ventor, who doubtless foresees the time-in the far-distant future when the forest shall cease to clothe the hills and dales, and thedemand for lumber shall prove vastly in excess of the supply, has succeeded in de vising a substitute for the na ural product of the virgin or the colti vated soil. His plan is to use that fragile vegetable, straw, and by a peculiar process to compress it into a substance as hard and indestruc tible as oak timber. It is claimed that this process converts wheat ptraw into timber which is suscept ible of as fine a polish and finish as mahogany and black walnut, at a cost not in excess of that of the best clear pine. The straw is first manufactured by the ordinary pa per-mill process into straw-board, and a sufficient number of sheets of this of the right size are taken to make the required timber. They are soaked and softened into a chemical solution, which is, of cours...

THE FELICIANA SENTINEL. A MODLE SOUTHERN GIRL. I think our ,outnerp girls are too often unduoervedly taken to task for their indolence and waont of i,.gen nity in devising moans of securing a livelihood, when the old folks arc no longer abld to a8sist and a hus band dose not cone forward to ros ei, the unheappy girl from old maid enhood. I have just heard of an ex eeption to this role, at any rate. 'hio spunk"yy girl in question is fro;n one of the upper connties of this State. At an early age she w. a foft a penniless orphan. She manangd. however, by dint of econ omy and the assistanct, prqb bly, of some of her distant relatives, to obtain an education-..-hoping, when she had completed her studies, to secure a schoo' and earn:: her bread in that way. But, like many another, when her school days were ended, t::is young girl found that the av ocation she had marked out for herself was tlso the choice of thou sands of others who, like heruelf, were striving to win their bread in that ...
