Engineer Hicks llilliker was hnuling load of iron from Ithaca to near Ludlowvillo. When ncnrMc Kinnay'a.where it will be remembered, perpendicular rock begin to rise from the water, n fine fox leaped upon the track some dixtance ahead of the locomotive, and started Northward. A few leads took him beyond the point where it was posssible for him to leave the track and escape, except by climbing the high walls of rocks or tumbling into the lake. The engineer seeing the situation pulled out the threttlo and gave chase. The locomo tive took advantage of the smooth rails, and Soon made considerable ad vance on tho fox. An occasional screech from the whistle would renew the courage of the fax, nnd cause him to gather himself up quicker after a tumble. EDITOR. WEDNESDAY M0RSI10, FEB. 12, IS1. Horrible Nitro-Glycerine Explosion at Tidioute Man and his wife Killed-HU Child Dangerously In jured. Sliertly after 7 o'clock yesterday morning a frightful torpedo explosion occurred on Dennis llun, about half a mile below Tidioute, whereby a fel low inortnl was instantly hurried into eternity, his wife fatally injured and his only child dangerously hurt. The shock is described by people residing in the vicinity ns terriffic in its via leute, and its effects were distinctly perceptable at a considerable distance. Kusliing to the spot a fearful sight met the gaze' of the horrified specta tor, whose worst fears of a terrible catastrophe were but too quickly real ized. The scene of the disaster was a frame house tenanted by Andrew Dairy in pie and his family, consisting ef his wife and one child, the latter a bright littla girl of twe years. The accommodation train from Brady's Uend ran off th5 track at 1:25 yerterday afternoon, a few hundred yards bulow Lower ilillville, happily without rcsuliiug in any serious per sonal injury. The train consisted of nine coal rars and one passenger coach, and was running at the rate of about fourteen Iniles an hour wheu the accident oc curred. Conductor Bonner was stand ing on the rear platform of the conch and saw the fifth car from the engine leave the track. His first impulse was to jump off, but remembering the passengers, of whom there were four in the coach two ladies, a girl nbout twelve years od aud one man he bravely went into the car to quiet the terrified inmates, alio by tiiia time were conscious from the jarring mo tion that accident had happened.
