Thurs day Grand Master Sweeney, of the Switchmen's union, was set upon by Arthur Quinn, a striking Nickel Plate switchman, and brutally assaulted. Sweeney and 75 switchmen had been attending the investigation ordered by the state beard of arbitration, and had left the hall, and were standing at the corner of Swann and Main streets. Quinn approached and told Sweeney he was responsible for the less of his job. An explosion, which It is feared may be attended by enormous less of life, has occurred at Aberkenfig, near Bridgend, in the Coun ty Glamorgan, Wales. One hundred and forty-one miners are entrapped in a coal pit, owing te an explosion, wfllch shattered the galleries by which they could have made exit, and nothing is known as te their fate. When the explosion took place, a vol ume of coal dust arose from the mouth of the pit, and this, along with the rum bling noise, gave notice te the inhabi tants that something serious hed oc curred.
